Kelsey Gutierrez studies creative writing at California State University, Long Beach and helps facilitate a monthly poetry workshop at the her local LGBT Center. She takes great interest in both poetry and fiction; her greatest influences stem from the works of Sharon Olds, Mindy Nettifee, Dave Eggers, Flannery O'Connor, Raymond Carver, George Herbert, and Ron Carlson. 

The recipient of the William T. Shadden Memorial Award for poetry, Kelsey placed first in Santiago Canyon's poetry contest in 2015 and placed second in their fiction contest during the same year. Her poetry has been featured in Coe Review and Broad! Mag.
